Grove Applauds Decision on Dover School District
HARRISBURG – This morning, the Pennsylvania State Board of Education’s Special Committee on the Washington Township Independent School District recommended denying the petition which would have transferred Dover School District students who reside in Washington Township, to Northern York County School District, reports State Rep. Seth Grove (R-York).

The decision comes after a public hearing and nearly three years of consideration of a petition filed in 2012 by the Washington Township Education Coalition. Students residing in Washington Township will continue to attend Dover School District.

“I’d like to thank the members of the special committee for their recommendation. Their decision will prevent massive tax increases on Dover residents and avoid teacher layoffs. This is a positive decision for the entire community. We are and will continue to be Dover Proud—proud of the great education that these students will continue to receive at Dover School District.”

The State Board of Education will take final action on today’s recommendations on Thursday Sept. 17, were it is expected that the committee’s recommendation will be upheld.

“As we move past this decision, it is important for residents to remember, that regardless of which side you stood on this issue that we can continue to build on the successes of the Dover School District by working together.”
