Grove Issues Statement on Signing of Unemployment Compensation Bill
HARRISBURG – This morning, a bill to update Pennsylvania’s unemployment compensation (UC) law and fight unemployment compensation fraud was signed into law by Gov. Tom Wolf.

Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover), who helped draft language incorporated into the bill, which passed with bipartisan support in the House and Senate, released the following statement:

“This law, formally House Bill 319, targets UC fraud, particularly those beneficiaries who try to scam the system while serving time in prison, and increases penalties for bad actors. It also puts the UC trust fund on a shorter path toward solvency and is expected to save the fund $1.5 billion over six years.

“The fund was expected to reach solvency in 2026 but this law allows it be solvent in 2024, two years ahead of the previous schedule. On top of cracking down on fraud and producing savings, the law also makes roughly 44,000 seasonal workers, most of whom are employed in the construction field, eligible for unemployment benefits.”
