Grove, Wagner to Host Budget Workshop
York – Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) and Sen. Scott Wagner (R-York) invite residents to participate in a “Can You Balance a State Budget?” workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the Shiloh Fire Hall, 2190 Carlisle Road in West Manchester Township.

“The yearly budget is the most important policy matter state government deals with on an ongoing basis,” said Wagner. “We often hear from constituents suggesting ways to save money, telling us not to raise their taxes, and requesting support for funding increases. Now we want to take it a step further and have taxpayers try their hand at developing and presenting a balanced budget.”

Workshop attendees will be given an overview of the budget process before being split into small groups and tasked with coming up with their own version of a state budget. They will consider various policy options and will have to decide where to make cuts or raise taxes.

“Creating a budget is often a daunting task, especially when you have to factor in various opinions on where your tax dollars should be directed while also working to curb costs. We go into each budget process with one thing in mind: This is your money and we must be incredibly mindful of how and where it’s spent,” Grove said. “We hope this hands-on lesson in budgeting gives everyone a better understanding of the process. On our end, we look forward to everyone’s valuable input and suggestions for balancing the state budget.”

Seating for this scenario-based group activity is limited, so those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by calling Rep. Grove’s district office at (717) 767-3947 or emailing by Friday, Oct. 7.
