York County Delegation Reminds Residents They Are Not Required to Pay Fee to Apply for State Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program - Free application assistance available at representatives’ offices
HARRISBURG - Members of the York County House delegation today reminded area residents that there is no charge to apply for the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program and that assistance in completing the application is available at no charge at any of their district offices.

“Numerous local senior citizens have contacted our offices about solicitations from private companies charging a fee to complete the Property Tax/Rent Rebate forms,” they said. “We want to remind residents that the Commonwealth does not charge a fee for either completing the application or obtaining a form. Our office staff can help local residents complete the application free of charge. Just be sure to bring all of the necessary paperwork, such as income, property tax or rental information.”

The letter asks recipients to provide income and homeownership information and urges them to include their processing fee of $46, which they can pay by check, money order or credit card.

Eligible participants of the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program can receive a rebate of up to $650 based on their rent or property taxes paid in 2015. The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with permanent disabilities.

Eligibility income limits for homeowners are set at the following levels, excluding 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits:

• $0 to $8,000, maximum $650 rebate (homeowners and renters).
• $8,001 to $15,000, maximum $500 rebate (homeowners and renters).
• $15,001 to $18,000, maximum $300 rebate (homeowners only).
