Grove Bill to Increase Child Flu Immunizations Signed into Law
6/26/2015
HARRISBURG – Legislation sponsored by Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) that will expand access to flu immunizations for children was signed into law today by Gov. Tom Wolf.

House Bill 182, now Act 8 of 2015, will permit pharmacists to offer flu vaccines to children ages 9 and older, with parental permission. It also will allow licensed pharmacy interns under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to administer the vaccine.

“I thank the governor for signing this important piece of health care legislation into law,” said Grove. “Pennsylvania currently lags the nation in the number children who are immunized against the flu. Pharmacists and pharmacy interns are well qualified to administer this safe and effective vaccine.”

The legislation will also positively impact active duty members of the military, veterans and their dependents. Under TRICARE, the military’s health care plan, all immunizations administered by a pharmacist are covered without a co-payment.

“Military personnel will no longer have to pay out-of-pocket co-pays to immunize their children from the flu,” said Grove. “This fix in the law allows service members and veterans to more fully access the benefits they’ve earned and to which they are entitled.”
