Grove Announces More than $100,000 for Local Fire, EMS Companies
1/24/2014
HARRISBURG – Ten fire and emergency medical services companies in the 196th Legislative District in York County will receive more than $100,000 in grants from the state to help with response activities according to Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover). In total, the companies were awarded $102,615.81 as part of the 2013-14 program year.

“These men and women are committed to serving our communities and strive to protect us, but a great deal of their time is spent raising funds just to keep their companies operational,” Grove said. “From equipment and training to vehicles and facilities, their burdens are heavy. Our local fire and ambulance companies need every bit of assistance in order for them to continue serving our communities and keeping us safe.”

The grants are part of the Pennsylvania Fire Company and Ambulance Service Grant Program, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Office of Fire Commissioner within the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA). Over the past decade, it has provided millions of dollars to volunteer fire and emergency medical service units.

Fire and emergency medical services that serve the 196th District were awarded the following amounts:

• Community Fire Company of Seven Valleys - $12.000.
• Dover Township Volunteer Fire Department - $12,486.03.
• Friendship Hose Company No. 1 - $3,000.
• Lincoln Fire Company No. 1 of Thomasville -$12,809.25.
• Lincoln Fire Company No. 1 of Thomasville EMS - $5,318.55.
• North Codorus Township Fire Company - $12,161.20.
• Porters Community Fire Company - $11,158.
• Spring Grove Area Ambulance Club - $7,091.40.
• Union Fire & Hose Co No. 1 of Dover -$12,972.07.
• Wellsville Volunteer Fire Company - $13,619.31.

As part of the grant program, recipients can use the funding to build, repair or renovate a fire company or ambulance service’s primary structure; purchase or repair firefighting, ambulance or rescue equipment; participate in training seminars and workshops; or pay down the organization’s debt.
